Scotch: Scouting the world of Scotch whisky

A spirited evening as we climb every peak and descend the Glens of Scotland to discover the power of some of the biggest names, such as Glenmorangie, and Laphroaig, but as we also uncover the warmth and complexity in the hidden gem distilleries. Learn what to look for in a quality malt, how to buy, and most importantly the style of malt that suits you best. Learn some technical points on whisky-making and speak like a stillman as you get familiar with terms like ppm, foreshots, reduction, chill-filtration, etc.

Precious and Rare Scotch

Warning! This class is not for the weak of heart. Here we will take a close look at some of the most exclusive bottles coming from Scotland, the innovation that has them turning heads, and the true beauty that over a century of practice can bring to your glass. Expect such delights as a not to be missed bottling of The Glenlivet, a rare vintage Macallan, and a few older malts. This is an advanced class, and fundamental Scotch knowledge is encouraged.

If you're an avid whiskey drinker, you probably spend a fair amount of time contemplating the subtle differences between Scotch and Bourbon. If you're just starting out, you might find yourself wondering, who the heck is Peat, and isn't Rye a kind of bread? All questions and experience levels are welcome at this tasting-based class. After all, the best way to learn is to taste, and we'll be featuring fine examples from around the whisk(e)y world.

This hands-on, experiential mixology 101 class led by professional bartenders Michael Neff and Kenneth McCoy will teach you all the basics of bartending.

* For two hours on your choice of one of two Saturdays, you'll get behind the bar and learn how to use bar tools to make drinks such as martinis, margaritas and Manhattans.

We have the Irish to thank for giving us the gift of whiskey, and the tradition of distilling this most delicious spirit. The word “whiskey” comes from the Gaelic “uisce beatha” (pronounced ish-ke bah), which means “water of life.” The denizens of Ireland have been distilling and aging spirits for centuries. In fact, the first written record of whiskey in the area dates to the early 1400s. To celebrate the history of this spirit, we will taste a full range of Irish whiskeys from different regions and different styles.

Whisky Live New York returns to the spectacular Pier Sixty on 11th April 2012 creating a magnificent evening of great whisky, fine food and wonderful entertainment in the heart of New York. Our 2011 show was our most successful edition attracting great whiskies and a fine crowd of whisky lovers and of course newcomers to a fantastic evening.
